It's Monday, and I am on a summer get-away along with the rest of the 5-family in the next state over.
I hope that as you read this I am floating around a lazy river nary a care in the world.

I read the Black and White ARC version of Bluffton; I can't wait to read this amazing nonfiction graphic novel again in full color.

I loved the strong & feisty Lizzy who struggles to keep her world right-side-up during the Great Depression.

- Love this post on Laura's blog about what actors she would like to have play her characters were her book to be made into a movie.
This would be a great title to use with writers' workshops or when talking with students about elements of a story.

- Amazing interview with Melissa Sweet via Seven Impossible things before Breakfast
I loved the fact that this story was the length of a single small town parade; through the flashbacks and side stories the reader keeps coming back to young Ruby standing inside a chalk circle inside a square.

Be sure to check out this amazing picture book biography about the Japanese-American Baseball player, Kenichi Zenimura, who built a baseball field inside the internment camp where he was held during World War II.

Barbed Wire Baseball focuses on Zenimura building the ball field; the video below highlights a landmark game played on the field.
The 5sters and I are working our way through the Spiderwick series as "read-together" books.

The Bud chose Rump for our next Read-Together book.
And I just picked up a load of new picture books from my local public library.
I loved the Center of Everything and the very cute Red Hat. I'm choosing between Every Day After and The Paperboy for my next book. And of course you've given me a few to add to my TBR, too! Enjoy your vacation!
ReplyDeleteThe vacation was awesome!
DeleteI think you will enjoy Every Day After - I don't know if I know The Paperboy (I'm assuming not the #nerdcott one)
I read Bluffton this week as well and really enjoyed it! I also have Rump on my TBR, but not sure if I will get to it this week.
ReplyDeleteHere's what we're reading
Reading Rump out loud has been fabulous - but also very hard because I am not reading ahead. Really loving it!
DeleteI loved Red Hat. And I especially love the video where Lita talks about her inspiration for the story.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize Every Day After had a book trailer. I need to read that one soon. Especially after meeting Laura at ALA and seeing how absolutely sweet and wonderful she is.
I ordered Every Day After right after all the fun at ALA - So glad it I did. It's really a wonderful read.
DeleteI love how your to-read list are in video form. You are so clever!
ReplyDeleteThanks - I don't know about clever, but I am really enjoying using Vine and embedding it places.
DeleteOf the two I liked Red Sled better than Red Hat. But both are pretty fun.
ReplyDeleteI totally <3 your Vine video!
And now I must go and add the Matt Phelan book to my TBR list. I'm waiting for Every Day After from the library.
Red Sled is my favorite of the two as well. I hope there are more wordless adventures to come from Lita.
